A Drake Equation for Relationships

I was thinking about relationships and trying to put them in a theoretical context. I came up with a modified Drake Equation for Relationships (DER). I published it as a blog entry here:

Unfortunately, I think your result is highly optimistic for this group of colleagues.

A reasonable approach but probably should include a few discount factors. The intelligence issue you mentioned could be a big one considering people really only have relationship elasticity to maybe one SD above or below them. And even that probably follows a bell curve with most looking for someone at there level. Then, you need a massive discount for the variance between meeting someone, and actually getting to know them reciprically to the point that a match can be made. Pretty massive I'd say - maybe 1/100 of the people you meet fit that filter. So, I'd be looking at a population of a few to 10,000 as more likely. That's if you are in a population dense area as well. - My two cents. Thanks, fun.
