I am not that schooled in heavy metal, but I do go to a shit-load of metal shows in thanks to my best friend lol.

I have come to love Pink Floyd, some Pantera, and old school Metallica.
PF - How I Wish You Were Here, Shine On.., and Hey You
Pantera - Floods
Metallica - Nothing Else Matters, Turn The Page, Unforgiven, Enter Sandman

Nothing too hard haha.

I love the Floyd, and lots of other stuff, including Kid Rock (Cowboy and American Bad Ass), Cracker (Low), Goin' to California by Led Zepplin, Hard to Handle by the Black Crowes, and a lot of stuff by Collective Soul. THe nature of the beast is really good for heavy metal. I also really like Welcome to the Jungle and November Rain by Guns and Roses. I like a number of rock ballads, also Closer to the Heart by Rush, and Turn the Page, but I like Bob Seger's original version. I run the whole gammit, including Eminem, Flo Rida and Nelly Batter Up. I am really into lyrics that are as hard as steel, or deep, or have lots of meaning (actually all of the above). OF course the music has to be really good, but I also like a lot of Meatloaf for the images and lyrics, and the music second. Oh yes, I also like the Immigrant Song by Led Zepplin. We come from the land of ice and snow, it's called Canada, where the cold winds blow... lol

I thought this was a metal thread too? But it's hard to pick a favourite metal song, especially as there are all kinds of metal. I've had people give me a hard time for liking older, more melodic 'hair farmer' bands when they're into death metal, black metal or thrash, but we have the taste we have and that's that.

That said, 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' is still a fave of mine. I like the faster arrangement of Cradle of Filth's version over the original Maiden one, but Dhani Filth's voice irritates me.

I like 'Buried Alive' and 'Countess Bathory' by Venom. Venom were one of my first metal bands I'd seen live. You can't argue with nostalgia.

I like a lot of Jrock bands, and the Jrock tradition is still very much steeped in oldschool metal. 'Filth' by dir en grey is a cool song I can recommend to anyone who hasn't checked out any of the Japanese bands yet.

I'm not fond of many new metal bands, but I had a friend who was obsessed with Slipknot. I found after awhile 'Psychosocial' got stuck in my head, as it's very catchy.

Maiden is amazing, and that song in particular is fantastic. I like CoF's version to be sure, but I just prefer Bruce's vocals, myself.

Grotto - Mahavishnu is amazing! Prog/fusion excellence. If you dig it, you oughta check out John McGlaughlin's [guitarist] work with Miles Davis.

My fav metal song? Hmm...

Tie between a bunch:

Deliverance - Opeth
Dead Eyes See No Future - Arch Enemy
Holy Diver - Dio
Tornado of Souls - Megadeth
I See Nothing But Flesh - The Project Hate
No One Like You - Scorpions
Strange Wings - Savatage
Forty Six & Two - Tool
Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr - Trivium
Mordecai - Between the Buried and Me

Heh. I have lots of favorites. Those are a few.
