Wait a sec - Letterman? The comment sounds like his type of wry sarcasm. And he has at times referred to having been married in the past. And he recently remarried.... ? |

Another very good guess, but no. Letterman did, in fact, remarry a few years ago, I think around the time his son with this woman turned 4. They had been living together for many years, it seems. But she was only his second wife, as far as I know. Our speaker had more than that. |

Remarried just a few months ago, in fact! How about Eddie Murphy or Johnny Carson? Both of them had multiple divorces. Although I can't imagine either of them having said "this time I got it right." |

Well, actually, it was Johnny Carson, and he did say that he got it right on the last (fourth) try. I think it's time to put this round out of our misery. I've also seen a very similar quote attributed to Rod Stewart. Removing that ambiguity is one reason I gave the additional clue about being happily remarried. #4: It's said that politics is the second oldest profession. I've come to realize it strongly resembles the first. |

ok i must haave seen someone just recently quoting that then. I think maybe craig ferguson did and said he understands or something (as hes been divorced a couple times i think.) hmmm, i think it would be someone withought huge presence right now or they'd get some slack for saying that. maybe retired or semi retired, not in politics anymore, if ever was? John Stewart? |

The quote about remarriage has been attributed to several people. I personally remember seeing Johnny Carson say it on The Tonight Show not long after his third divorce, and I think he's the first. The other quote is not Jon Stewart. It would have more ironic punch coming from someone who is or was a successful politician, don't you think? Not that that's necessarily a hint....  |

So, nobody wants to try identifying the source of that quote about politics as the second oldest profession, huh? I'm amazed. OK, another quote from the same source: "I don't want to get into the age issue. It wouldn't be fair to criticize my opponent for his youth and inexperience." |
