Have you heard about this new device called a fitbit?

It measures your health tracking towards your goals. I think it is a great concept, and am waiting until it comes out for $19.99 at Walgreens.

One basic flaw I see is you have a choice of where to wear the gizmo. If it works by sensing motion, that will be a lot different on your wrist vs waist. Also the name... sounds like a diet dog treat. As with efficient cars that have a MPG display, the accuracy is a lesser issue compared to its power to make people change their behavior to improve the displayed number. Dumbo's magic feather? IMO, more useful info would come from a logging heart rate monitor; probably cheaper too. |

Yes, it may not be that useful a device as yet, but there is more and more talk of these kinds of things. The local pharmacy has many devices for measuring all kinds of things like blood pressure and pulse rate. I was reading about various devices on this website: http://www.quantifiedself.com These days we have all our purchasing, professional and personal data online, but the next major trend will be our metabolic and physical data... Another step closer to becoming one with the machine... |
