Einstein is supposed to have said "I have no special talents. I'm only passionately curious." I like that way of thinking. I'd add to this list: politics, the outdoors, hiking, exploring (urban and otherwise), traveling, meeting new people

Quirky urban explorer with a penchant for running, eating out, books, and the outdoors

To start, I've recently relocated (i. e., March-July) to Chicago, my past, present and, definitely, future home, after several years working with the University of Michigan. For the past 15 years, I've been playing in the human resources sandbox, after earning a law degree with a fascinating, if not very practical, focus on constitutional law. I've spent time with for-profit companies, municipal government, and higher education. The one common factor in all: to do my best work, I have to believe passionately in the organization's reason for being.
When I'm not working, I like to spend time in cafes, wandering the aisles of bookstores (Unabridged, Powell's on Lincoln, and the Seminary Book Coop are some favorites), going to quirky or off-beat movies, going to big blockbuster movies (Harry Potter, Avatar), visiting some of our great museums (Garfield Park Conservatory, Science and Industry), or spending time at home, cooking for friends, hosting a dinner get-together, going out for a glass of wine or a beer, getting very sweaty at Cheetah gym, or trying out new places to eat.
When I travel in the US, I like, where possible and if time permits, to go by Amtrak--you just see parts of the country you don't really see any other way. Despite the big urban living thing (and I can't really imagine living in other than a big city), I love to spend time outdoors, hiking, walking, exploring. I have enjoyed hiking in New England and in the West. I've spent some time in national parks and would love to spend more and visit far more of them than I have. Though I'm a novice, I like to wall climb and would love to learn more and explore outdoor climbing too.
Outside the US, I've spent time in Quebec city, Montreal, Paris, and London. Some more international travel would be fun--more France and I'd love to visit Italy.
I'm definitely an optimist by nature and by default, but prone to worry when communication breaks down. Like most, I have a tendency to fill in the information gaps and not usually in the most positive of ways. I'm an emotionally open and expressive person and generally not a big fan of keeping secrets from friends, family, or guys I might be seeing. While I can't tell EVERY time, I'm not a real big fan of secret-keeping when its done to me either. I'm usually a bit restrained at first in groups where I don't know people, but warm up quickly and generally take a real interest in most people I meet. As Donna said to Josh in West Wing, "you like everybody!" Yeah, me too! I usually look for good in everyone and I'm always willing to revisit a first impression if I think I got it wrong. Politically, I'm VERY liberal and I take it seriously. I respect guys who think differently and even conservatively, but no can-do on dating.
So what brings you here?
See, e. g., above in re: eternal optimism. ;-P
I'm interested in seeing what's possible and meeting guys, for friendship and/or dating. Either/or would be great. I'm always game for grabbing a coffee or finding a place for a bite or a beer. Having some common interests would be great, and I'm always interested in learning about others that I didn't yet know I had. Its good to spend some time outside the comfort zone.
Just to get it up front, here are a few things I don't want:
hook-ups, "massage buddies" (whatever that is), social butterflies, the "gay fabulous" (i. e., if it REALLY matters to be seen at Sidetrack in the latest Mark Nasons and Rock & Republics with a martini in hand, then we're not going to get along & I send all the best of luck for your fabulosity), and last but DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, guys who can't keep their hands off their blackberries (for real, if you can't go an evening without checking every text ping on your phone, please call a psychotherapist NOW).
Thanks!
