My problem is that I find too many things interesting, so I won't list them all here. But I spend much of my time: reading and listening to NPR, singing in a chorus and a chamber group, eating really interesting and diverse food (much of which I cook), hiking and backpacking, volunteering as a youth leader in my community, bicycling, trying different wines and craft beers with friends, the natural world, frisbee with friends or the dog, listening to music -- many kinds, but not all -- either live or on CD/iPod, and working with my hands. And talking with my kids and other interesting people. I also feel the irresistible urge to travel abroad at least once a year, usually adventure travel that takes me off the beaten path.
Not interested in TV (haven't owned one for years) or sports for the most part, unless I get to play.
I'm unabashedly liberal in my political views. One of the few things I do not tolerate is intolerance. I believe that we're all in this together and all have a responsibility to help each other out.

Looking to share adventure, laughter, quiet time

Hello! I'm a fit and fun single-again neuroscientist, choral singer, hiker and backpacker, foodie and cook, world traveler, and volunteer in my community. I'm in my young 50s and am looking for someone to share in the adventures of my better half of life!

Jonathan Franzen, Neal Stephenson, Ann Patchett, older Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkein, David Sedaris, Oliver Sacks, Daniel Dennet, Cormac McCarthy, Sigurd F. Olson, Shakespeare ...

WHAT is your name? WHAT is your quest?

Ummm...a wonderful time with a fantastic person? You know, one that makes me want to have another. Is this a trick question?

Really, where we are meeting or what we are doing has little to do with how ideal the date will be. It's all about the fun we have together.

Movies? Zillions of them. I love a good movie that makes me think or laugh (or both):
Amelie (and most of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's films)
Brazil, 12 Monkeys (and most other visually bizarre and imaginative Terry Gilliam flicks)
A Lion in Winter (the real one)
Memento
To Kill a Mockingbird
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Princess Bride (and most films that involve Christopher Guest)
Pelle the Conqueror
My Life as a Dog (and most Lasse Hallstrom films)
Wallace and Gromit (any, all)
LOR

Music? I have 11000 songs on my iPod and they vary from medieval chant, to indie, to alt/pop, to Death Cab for Cutie, to the Sweeney Todd soundtrack, to Swing revival, to 20th Century Choral composers, to Delta Blues, to Bach, to Seattle grunge, to Bluegrass, to Folk singer-songwriters, to Dixieland Jazz, to Monteverdi,to Beatles and Stones, and even to Folk Metal (thanks to my headbanger son). No foul Rap or insipid twangy commercial Country need apply, and top pop will first have to stand the test of time. I like what I like and I don't like what I don't like. Not like anyone else...

Yes.

Oh you want to know what they are?

My top achievement is having raised three kids to young adulthood, and every one of them turned out to be someone I would like to spend time with and someone I can learn from and someone I can easily laugh with. It doesn't get any better than that!

Have performed in choruses at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Philly's Academy of Music, and the National Cathedral. Finally took voice lessons for the first time ever at age 51 to sing the role of Jephthe in Carissimi's Jephthe.

Have hiked up about a dozen 14ers in Colorado, several with a kid on my back and a couple since turning 50.

Trekked solo in unmapped regions of Guatemala's high country.

Professional achievements are there too, but they mean little in the grand scheme of things, IMHO.
