I can say with all honesty: I love my life ... wherever it takes me. I work hard to succeed at whatever I set my mind to, but I also know when to kick off my shoes, sit back, and just enjoy the moment. I've been described as a passionate person. I find pleasure and value in simple things. I love staring into the face of adventure as well as savoring the quiet comfort of family and home.
I don't have any kids of my own, but I very much value my family and am a doting auntie with plenty of nieces and nephews around to get riled up (before sending them back to their parents ;).
I definitely have my own opinions and love meeting people who know -why- they do and believe the things they do. Believe it or not, I don't think I'm right all the time and deeply respect individuals who believe in themselves enough to (constructively) disagree with me at times. I'm kind of a cocktail of sarcasm, optimism, curiosity, creativity, dry wit and head-turning-laughter. I am not above making myself the butt of a joke if it makes someone smile (even if that someone is just me).
What I'm ultimately looking for at the end of all this dating stuff is something give and take on both sides, something balanced, very honest, energizing, compassionate, inspiring, and realistic: synergistic if you will. When two people have that, there are a lot of superficial things that honestly don't matter ...
That being said, the "spark" of attraction (physical/spiritual/intellectual) is also important, yet hard to define. I'm not looking for someone to complete me, rather, for someone who is traveling the same direction in life with a personality complementary to my own.
I find assertiveness incredibly attractive. Spontaneity is great, but I like dependability and consistency even more. I'm fiercely independent but secretly value chivalry. I'm easily melted by compassion and genuine acts of kindness.
I'm looking for an equal, a friend, a partner in crime (figuratively) ... someone with smarts and a good heart, who is not afraid to show it.

Something low key. Food and or drinks: simple but functional. Creative first dates are great, but if you don't really get to know much about the other person then what's the point? Save the hot air balloon ride and bungee jumping for a three month anniversary or something (no wait, I'm terrified of heights ... and celebrating month-anniversaries is a bit much ;)

I love strange underground films with noir overtones and movies that begin at the end of the story. Amelie, City of Lost Children, Donnie Darko, Gattaca, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Memento, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Edward Scissorhands, Garden State, The Truman Show, K-Pax, the Royal Tenenbaums, Run Lola Run, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Fight Club, Blade Runner, Dark City, Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, 12 Monkeys, Pi, Sin City, The Professional, Tombstone, Punch Drunk Love, Star Wars, There Will Be Blood.
My music list won't fit on here! My favorites are constantly evolving as they are influenced by my life experiences. Indie rock, ambient electronica, synthpop, new wave/post punk are what I gravitate toward but can usually find something to appreciate in most types of music. Andrew Bird, Interpol, Regina Spektor, Radiohead, Keane, Ladytron, David Bowie, and Aqualung to name a very few.
