My ideal match is someone who is smart, ethical, has meaningful goals in her life and enough quirkiness to be fun.

Hiking somewhere exotic and getting so engrossed in the conversation that I'm not paying attention to the surroundings. I like kinetic dates, but not bungy jumping, please. I'm not a martyr.

Don't play a lot of games. But I do play computer chess, partly because you never feel bad about beating a computer.

For films, I like sweeping epics, adventure stories, musicals and romantic comedies and I'm getting partial to westerns because of the way the hero relates to an elemental landscape. For music, I'll listen to anything from Satie to Pink.

My life is one big intellectual adventure of teaching journalism in a university for part of the year and then dusting off my sandals to find exotic stories and write books about them. Lately I'm been in the jungles of Borneo and Sumatra to write a book about orangutans as an endangered species. The book, my sixth, is being published in 2010 in the United States. I do the photography as well, which I also teach.
And so the adventure continues. This summer I'm returning to Borneo and Sumatra to gather more material for my writing.
