iridescent and irreverent - sometimes simultaneously
I'm looking for a good conversation. Intense topics. Goofy humour. Meandering, lots of meandering. Preferably with someone who likes to respond in sentences that contain more than one word.
The closer I am to a lake, river or ocean, the more renewed I feel about life and what's possible. If only I could be the water... In the meantime, walking nearby makes me smile.
I'm embarking on an adventure to read a number of the classics of literature. Non-fiction is not to be sneezed at, but what about the great books of fiction?
And I'm working out how to explain around some of the woefully inadequate checklist choices. For instance... what about a wanna-be vegetarian who just can't quite commit fully and completely? (Please don't ask her to explain) What about a person who almost finished a graduate degree (twice), and so is much closer to the finish line than the start line? A few more legumes. A few more credits and a thesis defended and there might be checklist bliss.
I suppose I am here because I'm cautiously hoping for an alternate universe to those other typical dating sites.

This section scares me. Pardon me while I walk around it and look at it with dubious sideways glances for a little while longer.
A glass or two of wine and appetizers or light dinner at a small, neighbourhood-style restaurant or bistro would be a minimalist version. Maximum conversation counters the minimalism. Then, if all goes well, a long walk in that neighbourhood with a café as the destination, where there would be more conversing and sipping very good coffee for awhile.
Billiards (yes, I like the word billiards, but a pool hall is a comfortable place for me) Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit or any trivia type game, some card games such as hearts, euchre, poker (but I have to be reminded of the rules because I don't seem to play very often any more), jigsaw puzzles.
Movies: To Kill a Mockingbird (#1 and hasn't changed, ever), Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, The Usual Suspects, Waking Life, Tape, Bull Durham, My Dinner with André, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Fortune Cookie.

My interests are founded on an analytical curiousity about the world and the creatures in it. I have a need for substantiation on an ongoing basis, but I do suspend my disbelief from time to time. I am an environmentalist, but I don't spend 100% of my time hugging trees (too scratchy - I have sensitive skin). I am a pragmatist, which I believe makes me a better environmentalist. I can't seem to shake my mantra of 'always be learning', so interests tend to be closer to academic than hobby-like. Then again, I really want to learn to play blues guitar. Not so academic, that.
