Anthropologist, Educator now raising Avians

I am pretty much a nuts and bolts kind of guy, but that doesn’t mean simple. Behind this rugged exterior lies the heart of a cowboy, but the mind of a scholar. Born in Texas and raised mostly by my grandparents, I earned 4 college degrees and served in Viet Nam but managed to keep my kind and gentle spirit.

I drive a 4 x 4 Pickup and though it is not ecologically sound, it is practical for crossing the Sabine Creek and River. When someone develops a hybrid or electric 4x4, I can switch to something more environmentally friendly to get to my livestock.

I am a Vietnam Veteran and proud of it. Sure, I have scars and a bit of damage (don’t we all at this age?) but I don’t need a caretaker. I am not a wealthy man, but am financially secure and tend to lean toward being less wasteful than my contemporaries in our culture. I have no hidden agendas and will openly and candidly answer any questions you may have.

A former college educator (Professor of Anthropology), I taught for 15 years until the political shift in this country screwed up the educational system in the 1980’s. I left academia in the mid-80's and spent ten years managing a team that raced Mazda RX7s and Nissan 300Zs. Auto racing is not generally thought of as being ecologically sound, but all the advances in technology we see in cars we drive today came from racing research and testing during that period, especially fuel economy, safer tires and collision resistant frames.

I was married for 10 years from 1998 – 2008. We were separated in 2004. The divorce was final in 2008 and I have returned to doing what I did when I was young; raising livestock and living in the country. Most people consider me a liberal. I really don’t know which box I fit in. As a war veteran, I support our military, yet I did not support war and its application over the last eight years.

I don't go out much because I enjoy the serenity and peace of the country. I work part time at the Arboretum in Dallas, so my time in the "city" is limited.

To me, the end of a perfect day would be to have a glass of Spanish Tempranillo, a cold Miller Lite or a large glass of iced tea, sit under a shade tree and feed my birds, listen to music and watch the sun sink slowly in the west.

WHAT I LIKE TO DO:

Gardening, landscaping, tending to my livestock (peacocks, Guinea hens, chickens, goats and cattle) working the land, studying sustainable horticulture techniques, repairing mechanical items, visiting museums, viewing art and browsing through antique shops. I enjoy reading non-fiction topics on the Internet such as Anthropology, physical and social sciences, animal husbandry and various automotive and mechanical topics.

Music is a big part of my life. I listen to various genres of music (Progressive Country, Classic Rock, Jazz, Blues, Acoustical instruments and Classical.) My tastes are not main stream. I like music with soul, substance and style. I listen to Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jesse Colter, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams (Jr. and Sr.), Kris Kristofferson, Bob Segar, Townes Van Zandt, Michael Murphy, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, John Prine, Jimmy Buffett, Leo Kottke, Ry Cooder, David Allen Coe, Deryl Dodd, Bob Dylan, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom T. Hall, Nancy Griffith, Kate Wolf, Dan Fogelberg, Eagles, Steven Fromholz, CSNY, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, and Earl Klugh.

I also enjoy classical music, from Beethoven to Tchaikovsky to Verde. As a Social Anthropologist I enjoy art and all expressions of culture in the world. I like working with my hands and being outdoors as much as possible. Enjoy watching road racing on TV when I have an inclination, but I really don’t watch much TV. If you found me watching any TV it would be PBS, The History Channel, Food TV, HGTV, the RFD (Agriculture) Channel, Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow or the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Also enjoy watching auto racing every once in a while. Cooking is fun when I have the chance and although I might sound like a “brainiac”, I do have a great sense of humor.

I would certainly enjoy meeting a lady to share in any of these peaceful, yet fascinating pursuits.

What is an anthropologist? See the movie Last of the Dogmen

Marvin Harris, Darwin, Noam Chomsky, C Wright Mills, Ken Kesey,
My reading is usually related to the study of culture and the Nature of Humankind. Also read numerous articles on mechnical equipment, Animal husbandry, Livestock and of course Avians

Why are we Killing this Big Blue Ball we call home? Why do people say they support our Veterans, yet most have never been to a VA Hospital?

Some where it is quite to talk and have a beverage...adult or otherwise

Not much of a game player. Rasing 50 birds doesn't allow me much time to play.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Last of the Dogmen, Little Big Man, I really dont watch many movies........I dont live close to any theaters. I have just pulled myself into the 21st century and purchased a DVD player. I plan on copying some movies from Dish TV and Amazon.com
